Recently we updated the furniture in the living room. Re-arranging the couches left an awkward sized opening beside the end table. The table is almost the right size so we are left with...
Lets take a look at the box I made. It's pretty straight forward, a simple box with two drawers and the center section is fixed in place. The back of the box is open (the back of the box will sit against the wall). All of the outside faces of the box are made with some 3/4 - 1 inch pieces of oak. The inner boxes are made from 3/4 pine and the drawer bottoms are 1/8th oak plywood, All scraps and cut offs.
A few things that make this box way more functional are the two small motion sensor lights that are usb rechargeable. They are mounted on the inside of both the drawers. The second thing is the outlet that is mounted on top of the box.
The outlet on the top of the box was wired in by splicing a extension cord into a plug (If you are going to do this ensure that you connect the braided wire of the extension cord correctly... do your own research). The box also incorporates an outlet mounted to the underside of the top to allow a things to be plugged in and hidden.
The finished project makes a great charging station. If you place usb and other charging cables in the drawers it makes charging devices while your relaxing easy. Simply just plug an in wall power bar into the outlet and that is it, the space is covered up and your charging essentials are all in one place.
